Great question Susan! Time is often a barrier in the school environment because most staff have many demands. However, just like anything, start small.
Perhaps the task won’t seem so daunting if we re-phrase it so the goal is to “support the wellness of teachers”. It would be a huge undertaking to take care of everyone’s wellness, the best we can do is support staff to make choices that benefit their health and wellness. A great place to start is to collaborate with others and create a committee that can share the workload. A great thread here on the Forum that you might find helpful is ‘C: Committee of Wellness’. Once the interest for employee wellness has been started creating a Wellness Committee will help share the workload for brainstorming, planning, taking action and evaluating a workplace wellness program.
As well, if time is limited consider making staff wellness an addition to an event or initiative already underway. Are there currently any initiatives within your division for student wellness that could incorporate staff wellness as well?
