Is there an assessment tool that you use (or have used in the past) to improve your wellness (mental, physical or otherwise) that you can’t live without?

We had Health Advisors come into our schools and perform the Body Composition Clinics for staff. It was definitely interesting useful information, and I look forward to comparing my results again in June.

Thanks Megan!  What ways have you and some of your fellow school employees put (or intend to put) the information you’ve gained into action?

Megan H.

I spoke with some of my staff and the responses were overwhelming- drink more water, exercise more, eat healthier, get outside, get a doctor's appointment.  One response from a staff was amazing- she called Homewood Health and this was what happened:

An option after a consultation [with Homewood Health] was to speak to a registered dietitian. I did this and she interviewed me for approx.. 20-30 minutes discussing my results and asking what I wanted to change. She gave me realistic, gradual goals as well as information on:

-          Template for food plan with suggested meals

-          Protein content for common foods with alternative sources besides meat

-          Reading food labels

-          Lifestyle modifications

-          Healthy snacks

-          Simple meal ideas and websites to look at

Wow!  I couldn't wait to share this with staff!  I hope more members across the province will take advantage of such a fantastic resource available at no extra cost!

What was the method used for Body Composition measurement? This is very cool!

Hi Jolena,

Participant body composition was estimated using bioelectrical impedence analysis. As well, this was done alongside personal goal setting and linking to community resources and support.

Thanks for your question!

I also have done the body composition and it was definitely eye opening. It caused me to really look critically at my health choices.

Hi Kim,  sounds as though you had a bit of a shift in thinking around health and wellness after the Body Composition Clinic. What was the most exciting or positive outcome of this shift?

What are some assement tools that are best used for students kinder- jr high.

Megan H. ASEBP - @asebp.ab.ca | February 9 2016 2:27 PM

Hi Colette!

Great question, I just want to clarify what you are looking for.  Would this be health assessments for Jr. High students or academic assessments?  I love the discussion you are seeking here and would be happy to refer you to some of our partners who specialize in student wellness to help you out.

Are there any topics around employee wellness you were wondering about?
