Nature gives us so many gifts—besides its beauty, wonder and tranquility—the simple act of breathing fresh air serves to re-energize and revitalize us. I’ve found lots of ways to get outside in both my personal and professional lives, so here are some of my best suggestions:
· Plan an outdoor activity to celebrate National Forest Week, which is May 6-12 this year
· Hold an offsite staff meeting (my personal favourite is on the bleachers at the local ball diamond)
· Take a break with your colleagues to fly kites in the schoolyard
· Schedule a picnic lunch day—simply pick a date and remind everyone to bring a blanket and a bag lunch
· Host a “snow sculpture week” during the winter months
To get started today, try enjoying brief outdoor walks while tracking your school’s progress on Get Out Get Active—you can even challenge other schools or worksites to join in on the fun!
