Being Well to Shape the Future

by Kayli McClelland Ever Active Schools | October 6 2021

Ever Active Schools’ Shaping the Future is an annual conference that brings together educators, health and wellness professionals and researchers.

If you want to shape the future, you first have to set a course and invite others to join you on the journey.

Recent years have highlighted a need for comprehensive wellness education to help children and youth experience a balanced sense of well-being. However, it’s difficult to teach a concept that looks different for everyone without first experiencing that feeling of balance in an educational setting yourself.

At Shaping the Future 2022, a comprehensive school health conference for beginners to experts, well-being is a primary focus. Not only will the content of the conference work to increase your knowledge of and capacity for wellness education but the entire setting is designed to let you experience a healthy educational community. With a balanced schedule, healthy food, time to socialize and network, time to unwind, time for physical activities amid a magical setting in the mountains at Lake Louise, Shaping the Future truly allows you to experience what you aim to create.

"The conference renewed my belief in the importance of physical, nutritional, and social health as it relates to wellness." - past Shaping the Future delegate

A typical day at Shaping the Future might look a bit different for everyone, but no matter how you spend your time, it will be a retreat amongst like-minded peers!

Choose how you want to start your day: sleep in, join a morning wellness activity like yoga or an early morning group run, or perhaps enjoy a coffee or tea while you watch the sunrise over the mountains. Grab a nutritious breakfast, then explore a few sessions and soak up the knowledge of some incredible experts.

Throughout your day, connect with other delegates! You may know a few people you can chat with, or maybe you’re flying solo and enjoying the quiet, or perhaps you’re looking to spark new connections everywhere you go.

No matter your intentions for connection, the options are there. At the end of a full day of learning and fresh air, it’s time to decide on your evening: join one of the social events happening on any given day, like the Friday night banquet (put on your best shoes—we get fancy for this one!), strap on a pair of snowshoes to walk across the lake, grab a drink at the ice bar or enjoy a good book by the fire.

"Amazing to have such a wellness focused conference/opportunity in such a fantastic location. I very much appreciated that wellness breaks were scheduled in." - past Shaping the Future delegate

At any given Shaping the Future conference, there’s a vast variety of content available for you to explore:

  • Equity
  • Diversity and Inclusion
  • Mental Well-being
  • Outdoor Learning
  • Physical Activity
  • School Leadership
  • Sexual Health
  • Wellness in Post-Secondary Education
  • Youth Leadership
  • …and more!

This year, space is held for student presenters as well! After all, you can’t shape the future without hearing from the future.

While live attendance is strongly encouraged so that you can make the most out of your conference experience, there are virtual options available, too. If you’re unable to attend in-person, you can still sign up to access content virtually on-demand and have the virtual community—including live delegates—at your fingertips. Experience wellness in whatever way makes the most sense for you.

If you want to improve health and wellness education and create a healthy school community where all students and staff can thrive, Shaping the Future is the place for you.
